What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Sherwood S-8800a

First of a new breed  - from Sherwood.
This is what high performance is all about. A bold and beautiful new FM Stereo receiver bred to leave the others behind. 160 crisp, cleanwatts-power in reserve. Up-front, ultra-now circuitry featuring Field-Effect Transistors and microcircuitry. Front-panel, push-button command of main, remot, or mono extension speakers and loudness contour. Sherwood high-fidelity - where the action is - long on reliability with a three-year warranty.
Sherwood presents its latest version of the world-famed S-8800 series All-Silicon solid-state receivers. Six push buttons control the choice of main or remote stereo speakers (or both simultaneously), loudness contour, stereo/mono selection, tape monitoring, and high filter.
Unique with this receiver are two front-panel jacks, one to operate stereo headphones and another to playback or record into a tape recorder (or cassette recorder). The tape jack can also be used in conjunction with the S-8800a rear-panel jacks for dubbing from one recorder to another or for simultaneous recording on 2 recorders.
New features such as these are backed up by the latest engineering advances such as Microcircuitry in IF and Synchro-phase FM limiter/detector circuits (providing -60 dB AnM rejection and 2.0 dB capture ratio). Also featured are Field Effect transistors in RF and Mixer stages (enabling -95 dB cross-modulation rejection).
A power reserve of 160 watts (4 Ω music power) is available to operate 2 sets of stereo speaker outputs and also a mono speaker output on the rear panel. Superlative sound reproduction is provided by the Sherwood S-8800a FM rated at less than 0,15% distortion and stereo amplifier rated at 0,1% at normal listening levels.

All of Sherwood's solid-state receivers, which have long been acclaimed throughout the world for their reliability, now offer a full 3-year warranty on all parts.
