What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Onkyo T-4

Onkyo T-4 Solid State AM/FM Stereo Tuner with Servolocked Tuning.

Onkyo maintains its leadership position in solid state audio components with the only Servolocked tuner made in Onkyo's T-4. servolocked is a unique, proprietary circuit designed by Onkyo to provide virtually driftfree tuning for days on end in actual test.
The Servolocked circuit loop is under the automatic electronic control of another unique system, Sensitouch, which senses electronic components of your body. Thus, when you touch the tuning knob, automatic "Human Touch Sensor" alerts and unlocks the control circuit, allowing tunung while muting simultaneously cancels noise. When the meter swings into "Lock-on" area, a front panel indicator reads "Locked". When you release the tuning knob, the circuit locks on to optimum tuning; the meter is center-set, and the "Tuned" indicator lights to show you have perfect reception with maximum separation and minimum distortion.
To sum up, the T-4 has ease of tuning with pinpoint accuracy.
 Phase Locked Loop MPX Stereo
Clean, sharp stereo reception and separation is assured by Onkyo's use of a Phase Locked Loop circuit which synchronizes the stereo pilot signal in phase and frequency with the received signal.  Phase shift is avoided and stereo separation is stable at 40 dB (1 kHz) and 30 dB (100 - 10,000 Hz).

Front-end Sensitivity
Sensitivity and low distortion are a function of the superbly designed front end featuring a 4-gang variable capacitor with a specially selected FET. Usable sensitivity is 1,9 µV (mono) and 4,5 µV (stereo0, and the IF Rejection Ratio is 90 dB.

IF Sensitivity
Carrying fine performance throughout, Onkyo engineering provides 3-stage phase linear ceramic filters in the FM Intermediate Frequency Stage, resulting in maximum frequency response (30 - 15,000 Hz, +0,5 -2 dB) and low distortion. You get an alternate channel attenuation of 60 dB, and AM Suppression Ratio of 50 dB for low noise brilliance.
